Amanda K Scott: What is the concept behind Dancing Shadow? Anna Batcheva:The story is for a musician and his alter ego - his shadow – a reflection of his soul who is always dancing on his beautiful music because physically the jazzman couldn't dance but he always want to and his shadow while dancing is his own desire, a pure joy – like everybody inspired to dance in their dreams , listening a favourite song or lovely music. Amanda K Scott: The musician
plays Jazz while the dancing shadow dances to Hip Hop. Was that part
of the original concept? Anna Batcheva: We were trying to make collaboration between different styles and representing mainly street music and dance.

| Amanda K Scott:
Your three films have different styles including Indian and Hip hop.
What were your dance influences when you were growing up? Anna Batcheva: I grew up with classical ballet and typically Bulgarian dances. I was studying to be a cartoon film director, but now I want to try to mix all the styles I learned. Amanda K Scott: The
film is mostly set at night. What was the most difficult aspect of
shooting late? Anna Batcheva: We
were not ready to shoot this idea that night but time was a big pressure...so
we made this video with no lights, no money, no budget (like a demo
version) and only three people, one camera and a car. I’m pleased
that you like it... because we were thinking of reshooting the film
with better costumes and set but decided against it. |

| Amanda K Scott: The
Fourth Dimension (featuring Assen Pavlov) is one of the few Bulgarian
musical films shown outside Bulgaria. Will joining the EU open up
more avenues for filmmakers here? Amanda K Scott: What current projects are you working on? Anna Batcheva: At the moment we are preparing to shoot an educational dance comedy like a physical vaudeville - the script is about several friends and their relationships with jazz and experimental music including different styles of dance and feelings expressed with human movements. |
